TIOTI signup using Facebook

We've now got Facebook authentication - this works like an FB app, use your login here to allow TIOTI to create an account in your name, with some pre-filled profile info - like your fave TV shows and avatar pic.

Dead simple, no extra logins or passwords to remember, and none of that re-entering your profile info yet again.

TIOTI gets funding from Pond Venture Partners

22nd October, 2007: TIOTI, the social media aggregator and one-stop source for TV content, have successfully concluded first-round funding with Europe’s largest early-stage technology venture capital fund, Pond Venture Partners. This investment follows hot on the heels of earlier angel investors, including partners from Alegro Capital.

After TIOTI’s successful public launch of the service on October 1st, www.tioti.com is now indexing over 75,000 television shows and more than 500,000 individual episodes for download. TIOTI have doubled their registered users, increased overall visitors by 300%, and served over half a million pages since the beginning of October, 2007.

TIOTI - A new day, a new build

We've just put up a new build with lots of bug fixes in place - mostly small stuff you usually wouldn't notice, but good to have fixed. Thanks to all those who have sent in bug reports, your help has been invaluable in continuing to make TIOTI the best place for TV on the internet.

Now go and break more things: http://www.tioti.com

TIOTI Feature - Adding Photos to Shows

One of the things we like best about modern life is always having a digital camera to hand when we bump into those TV stars in the supermarket. Got off-duty, on-set or random but related TV star photos?

Great, because we've made it possible to add a Photogallery to any TV show on TIOTI where you can link photos you've taken and stored on Flickr to the show without any of that re-uploading messing about. Try it, it's really easy - all you need is your Flickr username.

We Heart The Royal Television Society

The RTS, whose members include every major UK broadcaster, has commissioned research from OC&C Strategy Consultants, which shows that young people in particular are switching off in huge numbers.

Under-30s now watch 40 per cent of their 'television' by downloading it over the internet or viewing it 'on demand' rather than watching it as it is broadcast.

More than 10 per cent of viewing by young people is already online, with the youngest groups (under 24) spending the most time on the internet.

73 per cent of the under-30s surveyed are using the internet more than they did three years ago, and 43 per cent of under 30s are watching less TV.

81 per cent of under-30s do something else while watching TV; among 15- to 17-year-olds the figure is 86 per cent.

Launch Roundup

Hooray, it's out there!

For some people the DNS still hasn't propagated through yet, which has had an impact of logging in and signing up. If your link to www.tioti.com is redirecting to beta2.tioti.com you're going to have that issue, but it should be resolved in a few more hours as ISPs and nameservers update.

Launching today, teething troubles

So, we're launching today but have had a couple of teething troubles moving the servers to 'live', especialy the secure signup - hang tight, we should have things running a bit smoother in a jiffy.

TIOTI Feature - Adding Video Clips

You might have noticed that we aggregate TV episode streaming links from all over the web, and allow you to submit your own if you've seen them elsewhere too. For video clips that aren't full episodes, we have a space for those too.

You know the kind of thing - title sequences, bloopers, mashups and spoofs - it's all out there and you can add it for any show by creating a "Video Clips" page and pasting in a YouTube URL or Embed code and you're done.

TIOTI Feature - Blog This!

This is one for the powerusers out there: TIOTI lets you set up details of a blog you post to in your account page. We are currently supporting Wordpress but will add others in time.

Once you've stored the XML-RPC address and login details for the blog, you can use the "Blog This" link on any TV episode page and write a quick post, comment, review or reminder on the episode on your own blog. We think it's quite neat, and we're sure you'll come up with all sorts of interesting uses for it beyond just that.

TIOTI at Chinwag Live - Web TV Takeover

http://live.chinwag.com/webtvtakeover

We will be at this Chinwag event on Tuesday evening if you want to say hello. It's a great panel covering all sorts of IPTV/web TV issues - should be pretty interesting to hear some of the different viewpoints here.

TIOTI Feature - Badges

TIOTI had the vague notion of TV show badges pencilled in before it even had a site even sketched out, I originally wrote them up on the blog on October 14 2005 - yikes! Vague is the word as they didn't make it into the beta release at all and the thinking around them didn't get fleshed out until my time in Simferopol and had to decide how, what and where they worked.

And now? We're very proud to show you our badges in their glory. Expanded to three types of badge, we let you pick a show related badge (which links to the TIOTI show page logically) with additional images coming from the show photogallery. We've also got TIOTI related badges which can be assigned from groups you belong to, a set of top tags (like "sci-fi" or "BBC") or other TIOTI things like your avatar, some "I heart TIOTI" badges and more. There's a third category, where you can create a link badge that will link to your Myspace, Flickr or Bebo page (amongst many others) to tie up your social networks a bit.

Of course it's fun to have your badges on TIOTI, but much more interesting to take them away as a widget and paste them on your blog, your Myspace page, or wherever embed codes are allowed. These are mine...

Like most of TIOTI, we'll be looking at extending the functionality of badges in the future so feel free to leave comments and suggestions for things you might like to see.

TIOTI at Media In Transition

I'll be presenting TIOTI and talking about some of the other interesting topics facing TV as it gets dragged slightly unwillingly onto the internet in Munich next week.

5 and 6 September 2007: Media In Transition

I'm in on in the afternoon on Wednesday 5th and covering the following:
* What we’re doing, and what’s next for online TV
* How aggregation sidesteps the “death of the TV channel”
* How niche social networks can thrive within a broader social web

If you see me there, do say hello (although my German is very very poor)

TIOTI Feature - Groups

Yes, we have groups in TIOTI, and we're only getting started but have some pretty neat functionality already. Anyone can create a group, on any subject and away you go. You can identify your new group by adding a description, avatar image and tags. Group members can 'flavour' your group by associating shows to the group from their favourites. Group members also get access to a special badge made from the group avatar.

Like most of TIOTI, we'll be looking at extending the functionality of groups in the future so feel free to leave comments and suggestions for things you might like to see.
